Kim-Harley Kim Herr - Owner, Operations, and Advertising

Hello, I’d like to take this opportunity to answer some questions that everyone seems to be asking…….who is Kim Herr, well that’s me. I grew up in southern Indiana, a small town by the name of North Vernon. I have never had a day in my life without many kinds of animals, but the strong passion for horses has been in my heart since I can remember.

I have been married to my husband Roy for 27 yrs. We have two sons, Cory, 23 and Daniel, 19. Our boys grew up around animals and farming, they did some showing along the way in 4-H and PHBA and once they got those drivers license, well, it was all over. That`s when it was time for me to get back into showing and having my own horse again.

In October of 2007 on a trip over to congress I found my partner in the show ring. I currently enjoy showing my 6yr old gelding Don’t Touch Me I’m Hot…aka Harley. I earned my first ever AQHA point at our debut in the show pen January 2008 at Murray, KY, something I’ll never forget. Although Harley is sometimes home with me, I am also under the guidance of Larry Simes, Simes Training Stable in Martinsville, IN. I enjoy traveling and showing with all my friends, whether it be at an open show or an AQHA show.

Last year with gas prices soaring out the roof, many of us searched for more local shows and events to attend. As we searched I began to realize that the need for this type of magazine was very prominent. My friends and I talked all season about creating such a source to be made available to the people out there like us. Here I am with the support of my family and the encouragement and generosity of such great friends that helped to make this dream a reality. There are too many to again say thank you to, but you know who you are. I hope as you see this magazine continue to grow and change with each issue, you enjoy not only the advertising and showbills it displays, but the small touches that make it more personable and interesting to all of you. I thank you again for the continued support and positive comments about Gatecall Magazine, and remember it’s show time, spring is just around the corner and……………..you won't want to miss this GateCall.

Thanks So Much,

Kim

GateCall Magazine - Debbi CottongimDebbi Cottongim - Web and Ad Design

Hello, and welcome once again to GateCall Magazine! I’m Debbi Cottongim and I take care of the website and many other computer related tasks for the magazine. I live outside of Franklin, IN with my wonderful and supportive husband of 29 years, Derek. We have 3 children. Sarah (24) is a Special Ed. Teacher for Lawrence Township Schools in Indianapolis. Twins, Becky and Ben (19) will soon start their second year in college. Becky goes to IU and studies several foreign languages and Ben attends Butler University and is a Pharmacy major.

I got my start with horses at about age 11 when a Girl Scout troop that my mom was helping with had the opportunity to take some riding lessons. These girls were older than me but I begged enough to get to go too and I was hooked! From there I got my first horse that I rode through most of High School until jobs and college plans got in the way. I was horse-less for several years until my girls were bitten by the horse bug. Ben always preferred his “horses” to have an engine attached to them but Sarah and Becky showed for many years in 4-H and Open shows. Now that they don’t have time anymore, it’s my turn again. I still have both of my daughters’ show mares but also have a 4 year old APHA gelding (May Be A Gentleman aka Oliver) that I have raised. He is beautiful and intelligent and a bit challenging at times but we’re taking our time and he is improving nicely.

I have a degree and many years of experience in computer programming and website design and run my own web design business (Agile Impact Web Design) from home. My business and technical experience combined with my love of horses creates the perfect match for my position with GateCall Magazine. I hope that you enjoy the magazine and will let us know what we can do better. We really want this to be a magazine that you look forward to reading!

Thanks so much for your continued support!

Pat Denney - GateCall MagazinePat Denney - Advertising

Hi my name is Pat Denney, I live in Franklin, Indiana. I am one fourth of The GateCall Magazine group. I always will take your phone calls for your advertising needs.

My horse life began as a child. I was fascinated with anything horse related. Hoofprints left on a state park path to an old rotten leather halter. When I was nine I got my first pony. There was nothing about him that was trained. I still loved riding bareback and racing across a field. I later was given what looked like a plowhorse. After much training, he and I competed at all the local open shows. We won numerous all around awards together.

Adulthood took me away from horses for a while. When I was able to, I leased a horse and competed in Eventing for many years. I then bought a grey gelding, Cruise, that brought me back to the pleasure ring. I have a softness for a grey horse and purchased my current ride, Rebel. Last winter Rebel and I were part of a movie to be called “Spooky Tails”. Walking through the woods with a fog machine didn’t faze him in the least.

I am fortunate that Mike, my husband, loves the small farm life. Horses are not his “thing”, but the added tractors and implements are. Friends know where to find us when coming down the driveway as we are always in the barn. Grab a chair and beverage so we can sit comfortably and talk forever. Our two daughters have graduated from Indiana University and are now living their adult lives. Horses have not returned as part of their lives again yet.

I now have a Pet/Farm Sitting business that keeps me running all over the county. I started this business out of my own need. It was very hard to find someone who really knew horses and their behavior that I could trust while away from home. I have fun meeting the other animals and learning routines at other barns. “Every animal has a purpose in our lives” is my motto. My business has kept me away from the show ring this season, but I am enjoying the change.

My other interests are flower gardening, creating flower arrangements and photography. I was on the garden tour for Johnson County many years ago and have sold flower arrangements to a shop in Nashville, but only play with my photos.

Enjoy your GateCall Magazine.
